Calathea Names/Varieties Calatheas (like Marantas, Stromanthes and Ctenanthes) are commonly known as Peacock or Prayer Plants. They fold their leaves up at night what looks like they are praying and have colorful markings like a Peacock. Most Calathea leaves have purple undersites.

Some of the most common Calathea varieties are:

- Calathea 'Orbifolia' (big, round leaves with silvery stripes) - Calathea 'White Fusion' (small, narrow leaves with snow white varigation) - Calathea 'Lancifolia' (Rattlesnake like markings on long, narrow leaves) - Calathea 'Ornata' (white or rose pinstripes) - Calathea 'Medallion' (large, oval leaves, feather like markings) - Calathea 'Rufibarba' (long, dark green, wavy leaves. They feel very soft and hairy)

Origin
Native to the tropical parts of America.

Climate
Temperatures between 65° and 75° are ideal for all Calatheas. They like bright indirect light and humidity. Keep them away from direct sunlight and in a humid environment (60-80%). If you can't provide humidity you will notice brown, crispy leaf edges pretty soon.

Water needs
Calatheas don't like to dry out all the way. They like to stay relatively moist but not soggy.

Toxicity
This plant is not toxic to humans, dogs and cats.

Growth habits
Calatheas grow about 20-30 inches tall.
